Denibbing brush technique
Creating adhesion and/or light sanding, intermediate sanding
Denibbing
Denibbing is used between processes to create a smooth surface and also to ensure optimal adhesion of the lacquer. For metal or plastic products, the purpose of denibbing is to slightly roughen the surface to create adhesion for the next layer of lacquer. For wood, denibbing is used to both roughen up the surface and to sand off any raised fibres, which are often created by water-based lacquer, oil, stain or moisture.
Brushes made of abrasive cloth, supported by natural fibres, are also used for denibbing. For most production speeds a grit size of 180 or higher is suitable.
